Susan E. Canter is well known as a professional and volunteer in the government, faith and nonprofit communities.
Ms. Canter founded JB Capstone Enterprises, LLC, where she advises domestic and international for-profit, nonprofit, government and religious corporations, executives, boards, developers, investors, philanthropists, fundraisers, social-service and health organizations, entrepreneurs, newspapers, scientific researchers, biotech startups, emergency care service organizations, technology companies, cultural institutions and commercial co-venturers on all legal, business, leadership, strategic and charitable matters.
Prior to JB Capstone, Ms. Canter served as the General Counsel of Project Renewal, Inc.— an 850-employee, New York City-wide private $50 million budget nonprofit annually serving over 10,000 homeless, mentally-ill and addicted New Yorkers. Before Project Renewal, Ms. Canter was Senior Counsel at Merck & Co.—a Fortune 50 company —in their Medco Health division and an associate at Kelly Drye and Warren, an international law firm headquartered in Manhattan.
Ms. Canter serves as Chair of the Israel Committees at two major synagogues in New York City: The Jewish Center and Congregation Ohab Zedek (2015 gala dinner honoree). Additionally, she serves as Security Team Leader for the Community Security Service- a volunteer-driven international organization aimed at protecting members of the Jewish community.
Ms. Canter is an Emeritus Board Member of the Council of Young Jewish Presidents and has previously served on its Executive Committee. Ms. Canter is also a board member of Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem (2012 gala dinner honoree) and the Israel Bonds Women’s Division.
She has held various positions in AIPAC, serves as a Regional Mission Chair for NORPAC and has been an international board member and leader at the Israel Cancer Research Fund, UJA Federation, Hadassah, Anti Defamation League and the Anti Defamation League’s National Legal Affairs, among other organizations.
Ms. Canter is an honors graduate of Queens College/CUNY, where she served as President of the Student Government and New York University School of Law, where she was Senior Editor of the Journal of International Law and Politics.
Ms. Canter has chaired several philanthropic conferences and is also a frequently invited lecturer.
